VIDEO: A Look At When Players Go Mental

Banter; noun, what football players have to put up with every time they step onto a football pitch. Most players have built-in system that helps them to ignore – some struggle though e.g Jack Wilshere.

If enough stress and pressure is applied to one individual then that individual might begin to act in a strange and bizarre manner. This was clearly the case for the captain of lower league Goole F.C. who took great offence to some comments made by a home supporter during a game against Coalville F.C. after he was sent off.

So offended was the player, Karl Colley, that he decided to run into the stands and tackle the issue personally with that particular fan. It leaves you to wonder what exactly was said to the player to make him start swinging for one of his home fans.

Perhaps the fan remarked on Colley’s appearance that day? More likely, he had some choice words for him with regards to how he had let his team down by getting sent off. The thing is, though, if the fan did have something to say than he is entitled to do that – this is how the crowd are at football games and the players and managers have to take it on the chin.

Colley, inevitably, has lost his job and he probably will not be working in football again. You simply cannot begin to think you are Eric Cantona and enter the stands to go nose to nose with a fan. Or, in Cantona’s case, foot to face with a fan.
