The lengthy flirtation between Wesley Sneijder and Manchester United could be drawing to a close soon according to the Daily Express. Negotiations have broken down in Milan over an extension to the Dutch international's contract with his club Inter. This is believed to be one of, if not the only, reason why the player has only played five games so far this season. Inter are currently second in Serie A but Sneijder has hardly featured. Could Sir Alex Ferguson finally get his man? Surely a player of Sneijder's class and credentials won't hang around to warm the bench.
United have been found wanting in central midfield this season and that's because there is a Sneijder-shaped hole. Paul Scholes has shown flashes of his old brilliance this season but is sadly beginning to look past it, Shinji Kagawa was in great form before his injury but is yet to return to the first team and Michael Carrick, for my money, only really looks good when Scholes plays well. If Sneijder does decide to move he surely would be manna from Heaven for Fergie.
The 28-year-old Dutch international would walk into any team and would be one of the marquee signings of the transfer window. Will Fergie go for him again? If he was truly available, he'd be mad not to.
