Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani looks set to leave Anfield this summer, with Fiorentina a possible destination.
The Italian has failed to live up to expectations following his £17m move from AS Roma in 2009.
A series of injuries and a loss of form has restricted Aquilani to just 18 league appearances over the past three years.
Loan spells with Juventus and AC Milan has seen the 28-year-old recapture his form of old, but both clubs opted against making his move permanent.
Fiorentina now appears to have won the race for his signature, with Aquilani keen to secure a move back to Italy.
The midfielder was granted permission to return to his homeland over the weekend to discuss the move, having missed the 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
