Financially backed Paris St. Germain have made a sensational move for Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole.
The 31-year-old England international has just one year left to run on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with a move away from the Champions League holders.
Manchester United had shown an interest in the former Arsenal star, but will only move for him should they fail to land Everton’s Leighton Baines.
However, they face stiff competition from the Ligue 1 side as they continue their big spending summer.
PSG have already bought in Ezequiel Lavezzi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Marco Verratti as they look to reclaim their place at the summit of French football.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti is keen to be reunited with Cole at the Parc des Princes and could be prepared to offer him one last bumper pay deal to secure his signature.
