    Di Matteo expects pressure

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is playing his own little version of Russian Roulette with owner Roman Abramovich every day at the club’s Cobham training ground.

He admits Abramovich pays him a small visit most days while the team trains, but the Blues manager admits that he expects that kind of pressure at such a big club. Is it right for the Russian to be spying on his understudy though?

In any business, if you’re the person in charge you want to know exactly what is going on, from the general operative right up to the managing director, and with the way football has gone in recent years, it is far more than just a sport. So those who criticise the way Mr Abramovich works, they have to sit down and seriously consider what they would do differently if they were in his shoes, given the money he’s pumped into the club.

We’ve all grown accustomed to that strange smile from the Russian, and regardless of what people outside the Stamford Bridge gates think of his business acumen, Roman Abramovich will continue grinning profusely if Chelsea carry on getting positive results in the Premier League.
