It's safe to say that Rafa Benitez's spell at Chelsea has not been his most successful one, nor the most well-received by the club's faithful. The sacking of double-winning ex-Chelsea player Roberto di Matteo was a very unpopular one, and hiring a manager who had a strong rivalry with the club during Jose Mourinho's time at Chelsea was even less popular.

Sean Wilson Atletico Madrid's star striker has been on many a rich football club owner's shopping list, particularly Roman Abramovich, who will be salivating at the thought of bringing the prolific front-man to west London, so that he has two actual strikers at his disposal.

Chelsea made a fantastic winter signing to boost their strike-force in spendind £7 million for Demba Ba. But it seems that the club (i.e. Abramovich) is not quite done there. In what seems and unlikely (but potenitally plausible) turn of events, Chelsea could sacrifice their budding goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (who is on-loan at Atletico) for the greater good of the club. Since the sale of Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea still only have two senior, recognised strikers at their disposal. And since the other one is Fernando Torres, they only have one.

When Neymar arrived in England, many mouths watered with excitement at the prospect of watching the young Brazilian's hyped-up talent at Wembley, and transfer speculation linking the prodigy with a move to the Premiership (with Chelsea in particular named fairly frequently) was rife. However, after a disappointing showing against the Three Lions on Wednesday (perhaps 'disappointing' is a little harsh, but he certainly didn't live up to the hype surrounding him) , the fickle football society – and, according to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea and Manchester United – seem to have begun to look elsewhere in search of new talent to hail.
