Matteo: Torres bigger flop than Carroll

Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo believes Andy Carroll will be a better acquisition than Chelsea's Fernando Torres.

The duo have both been labelled “flops” since their expensive transfers moves in January but Matteo insists with the right coaching Carroll can still come good.

“I think Torres has been a lot worse than Carroll,” he told the Sunday Mirror. “For some reason, he has lost his confidence.

“We’re all now thinking, will he ever get that back? Has he got the desire to get that back?

“His finishing seems to have gone to pot. Liverpool will be seeing selling Torres as a good bit of business.

“Carroll’s still a young lad who’s very raw. With the right coaching behind him, he could have a bright future.”

Since January the pair have produced just 10 goals between them in over 50 appearances for both Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
