Barnsley sign Mellis

Former Chelsea youngster, Jacob Mellis, has signed for Barnsley on a two year contract.

The midfielder appeared for the England U16, U17 and U19 teams and played 15 games for the Tykes during a loan spell in 2011.

He was released by Chelsea in March for setting off a smoke grenade at the Stamford Bridge outfits training ground.

Having been cautioned for common assault, Mellis will welcome the opportunity for a fresh start in South Yorkshire, where he began his career in 2007 with Sheffield United.
