Daniel Whiteway Chelsea defender David Luiz has missed the cut to make the Brazil squad for the forthcoming Olympic football tournament.
Luiz was widely tipped to be one of the three overage players to make the squad but has been overlooked in favour of Thiago Silva, Hulk and Marcelo as the over-23 players to take part in the tournament.
The Brazil squad will train at Arsenal’s Colney training base when they arrive in the UK on Monday, July 16 and face Team GB on Friday, July 20 in a friendly at the Riverside Stadium, Middlebrough.
Chelsea already have four players pencilled in to play in the Olympics; Oriel Romeu and Juan Mata for Spain and Ryan Bertrand and Daniel Sturridge for Team GB.
Manchester United’s Rafael and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Sandro are the two British-based players to be named in the Brazil squad for the tournament.
