Rooney keen to link up with Dutchman

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has welcomed interest linking the club with a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

The Dutchman is expected to leave the Gunners this summer after turning down a new long-term deal, with United thought to be front-runners in the race for his signature.

"Of course he's a player that I admire," said Rooney.

"He's a fantastic player. He's been amazing for Arsenal over many years. Last season was probably his best season of all. He scored a lot of goals.

"If he does come here he would be a great addition to the squad."
