January Transfers: Arsenal To Add A Second Defensive Signing After Gabriel Paulista

After the successful addition of Brazilian Gabriel Paulista to their ranks, the Gunners are now hungry for more quality purchases, before the January transfer window closes. Arsenal are now reported to be keeping close tabs on Italian superstar defender Daniele Rugani. Despite the deal for Paulista from Villarreal and purchase of Krystian Bielik earlier this month, Wenger now wants more defensive cover for his back-line, which has been exposed at times, to a lot of injury problems. The 20 year old Italian Rugani is being considered as a bright prospect for the future, due to his recent quality displays for Empoli, which has attracted a lot of attention.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also understood to be interested in acquiring the youngsters services. Real too have a strong intent on landing the youngster, who is currently on loan at Empoli from Italian champions Juventus. The center-back who joined Empoli in 2013 has made a total of 40 appearances for them and managed to score a tally of 4 goals, till date. Rugani has been a regular performer at all the youth levels for Italy and has now been called up to the senior squad for the first time by Antonio Conte in November.

The Gunners who currently find themselves at fifth spot in the Premier League table are keen on pushing for a Champions League spot for next year and wish to retain their FA Cup title. With big Premier League clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Southampton and Tottenham already eliminated from the competition, the guys have a great chance of accomplishing that feat once again. Arsene Wenger would also be looking to make a long run in the Champions League knockout stages this season, where his side will face French outfit AS Monaco. What happens next regarding the future of the Italian starlet, remains to be seen, as both clubs may look to initiate talks soon.
